Positive Behaviour Support and Applied Behaviour Analysis Training

Behaviour Zen aims to enable parents, teachers and professionals establish successful programs to teach and motivate students with challenging behaviours to interact and participate in daily activities positively.   The Behaviour Zen resources and training are based on Positive Behaviour Support.  Positive (PBS) is an approach that combines evidence-based practices from Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and other social, psychological and medical disciplines to resolve behavioural challenges, improve independence, participation and overall quality of life (Hieneman, 2015).

By incorporating the principles from the various disciplines especially Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) by understanding how behaviour and learning develops we can help design interventions intended to promote the learning of new skills, positive attitudes and prevent challenging behaviours.  This approach is useful for students with emotional behavioural difficulties. For example, students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Anxiety, Aggressive, Oppositional and Defiant behaviours.

Why Positive Behaviour Support incorporating Applied Behaviour Analysis is so important?

The number of children, adolescents and adults who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Anxiety, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Aggression, Oppositional and Defiant behaviours  continues to rise in Australia.  So it is reasonable to expect that parents, teachers and professionals will be required to provide support. Each student will present with unique needs that when unmet can result in the student acting out in challenging ways.

Without the necessary knowledge and tools, parents, teachers and professionals can often find it difficult to meet the needs of their students effectively.  That is why Behaviour Zen offers comprehensive workshops, books, apps and online courses, to enable parents, teachers and professionals to utilise Positive Behaviour Support incorporating Applied Behaviour Analysis principles in everyday situations.

Areas you will find covered within our resources can include, but not limited to:

  • Data collection methods to determine why the student is exhibiting challenging behaviour
  • Setting realistic, achievable & timely goals
  • Strategies to recognise, manage, and prevent behaviour
  • Encourage further understanding and assistance from others in the home, class, or other social environment to support the student consistently
