Supporting individuals with emotional and behavioural difficulties requires the input of a variety of professionals, including:

  • Mental health professionals (e.g. psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, psychologists, counsellors and mental health nurses).
  • Allied health professionals (e.g. speech pathologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and social workers).
  • Supervisory professionals (e.g. managers, team learners, supervisors, coordinators, consultants and other professionals in leadership positions).

Each professional provides a critical intervention and support to not only to the individual but also to their families and support staff. This is essential because challenging behaviour does not happen in a vacuum, but is the product of the interaction between the:

  • individual and the communication partner/s,
  • individual and the activity, and
  • individual and the environment.

Enabling change requires all the key people (e.g. families and direct support staff) to have a ‘mind set’ or a ‘mind shift’ to effectively support and respond to the individual. Ensuring everyone involved has the same expectations and interacts and responds to the individual consistently is a challenge.

If any of this sounds familiar, then you have come to the right place. Behaviour Zen provides a range of services and resources to address these challenges Positive Behaviour Support workshops, online training, books and apps Training Online to address these challenges.
